February 2007 Status Report
I know it’s a couple days late, but here’s what I was up to in February.
Tasks Completed
1. I launched a forum targeting a very specific niche with one of my friends from high school. He brings the niche-specific expertise and I handle the technical stuff. We’ve both been promoting the forum, but most of this has fallen to me because I have more experience in that department. The forum is doing much better than I expected. In less than a month we have almost 200 members, it’s making a few dollars per day in PPC ads, and we’ve sold our first direct advertisement. Not bad for one month. We haven’t made that much money, but the goal now is to keep increasing the user base.
2. I realized that my MFA content generator wasn’t working anymore so I decided to scrap it and build a new one. I don’t even want to think about how much revenue I lost because almost all the pages I built throughout February didn’t have any content on them until I realized what was going on. Oh well, I guess that’s part of the business.
3. I continued to build MFA sites with the new content generator, but I do have to say that I’m seeing less of a payout with these sites than I was seeing just a few months ago. I’m getting the same CTR, but my CPM is extremely low. I’m beginning to think it’s time to move in another direction…which leads us to:
4. Ok, I know I’ve been saying that I was going to start affiliate marketing, but I didn’t get to it in February. I promise that March is going to be the month I start and I even committed myself by buying the fantomaster spider spy. Now that I can recognize the spiders I can start sending the real users to my landing pages.
5. I created a handful of gray hat sites just to see how long they last in the SERPs and what the ROI will be on them. The sites target local searches (i.e. “boston ma red widgets”) for a few states. If they’re successful I’ll start rolling them out for all 50 states.
6. I made some improvements to DIRZAP and I put it up for sale. No serious interest yet and I’ve been starting to think about what to do with the site if it doesn’t sell. I either need to go full-steam ahead with it so that it realizes its potential, or push it to the side for a while. It looks like it will probably be the latter, unfortunately.
Goals For March
This is the month I start pushing affiliate programs.
I promise.
