I had never visited sitepoint before the other day. I try to limit the amount of time I spend reading blogs and forums, but I decided to pop in to see what it was about. I never even got to check out the forums because their featured article about flipping web sites caught my eye.
The concept is simple: you buy a site that needs some TLC to reach its potential, apply that TLC, and then resell it for a profit. People have been doing this for years with cars, homes, and other high ticket items, and it makes sense that this strategy would work for sites as well.
After I read the article I started thinking about doing this myself. My mind started racing thinking about all the different domains that are going up for auction on all the different forums and what I could do to profit off these sales.
However, before I made my first bid I (thankfully) realized something very important: I already own hundreds of domains that need work!
In other words, why would I spend the money to buy someone else’s crap to fix, when I already have my own crap that needs fixing?
I started with DIRZAP, which I have been neglecting the past month. I made some major improvements and started marketing it. The results have been great.
This all reminds me of the ubiquitous self-help slogan, “Live each day as if it were your last.” You should also treat each domain as if you were going to sell it tomorrow. What improvements would you make to ensure you squeezed out every last dollar of the sale?
If you make those improvements today, your bottom line will thank you tomorrow.
