Go Live Somewhere Else
I debated writing/publishing this post for a while. On one hand, I run the risk of being labeled an arrogant prick. On the other, I think alot of people will find some value in what I have to say.
Most people who are in the internet marketing business also hold full-time jobs. If you hang around forums long enough, you’re bound to read hundreds of threads where people are dreaming about the day they quit their job and can work on their sites from home.
If you really hate your job, there is one way that you could quit today:
Go Live Somewhere Else.
Chances are you live in a relatively expensive part of the world. The United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and other parts of Europe are extremely expensive when compared to other countries. By moving somewhere else, even for a short period of time, you’ll be able to quit your job, travel, and learn more about yourself.
Last year I decided to sell my house in the U.S. and move my family to an island in the Mediterranean Sea. Not because I had to, but because I could. Internet marketing is one of the only jobs where you can work from anywhere there is a high-speed internet connection.
My wife and I decided that if we were going to do it, we wanted to do it before our daughter started school and started making friends. We left the day after her first birthday (in November) and we’ll be heading back to the States in July. We knew all along it was going to be temporary. In fact, promising we would be gone for less than a year was the only way I could convince my wife to take our daughter away from her extended family.
We are renting a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom penthouse apartment with a large deck and all the amenities from back home. Here is the view that I have as I write this post:

We don’t have a car here, but we live close enough to the markets and a bus stop that we can get around just fine. Our total expenses here (rent, food, utilities, entertainment, etc.) are less than what our mortgage was back home.
Could you live here on $1000/month? Probably not. But there are plenty of places where you could. In fact, there are plenty of places where you could live comfortably on $500/month.
If you’re a single guy with some street smarts, you’ll do just fine in Bangkok. I also hear the Philippines is a popular spot for internet marketers to set up shop. If you don’t want to be that far away from the States, there are plenty of islands in the Caribbean and countries in Central/South America that welcome tourists with open arms.
Not only will moving somewhere change your life, but you’ll also have the opportunity to work on your sites full-time.
If you ever thought, “I could be successful if I had more time,” there’s only one way to find out.
What are you waiting for?

I’m Jealous

Cool, is that the azores?
No, I’m in the Med.
I sooooooooo think the same way, im always saying IMAGINE what i could do if i could finaly work on my sites full time, and I probably will soon without moving but of course that is one quick solution. My goal is to reach a certain income/day and then try mfa/bh/seo full time for a couple of months to see how it goes. Is moving the event that first allowed you to go full time online?
We started planning the move in May, 2006. At that time I wasn’t making enough for us to survive on my online income alone. However, having the mindset that my online income would soon be our only income pushed me to work harder and be more creative.
By the time September rolled around I was able to quit my job a couple months before we left because I was making more than what they were paying me to show up for work.
So to answer your question, I believe that deciding to move was the catalyst to get me to take this more seriously, which led to me making enough money to not have to work anymore.
Is it Malta?
Hello,
I suggest to try Aegian Islands or Cyprus next time.
In Cyprus there are English schools for your children, the tax enviroment is 10% in profits(tax treaty between Cyprus and US), you may have a second passport in 4 or 5 years ,if you stay in the Island.
Regards
Basil
agree left the UK for thailand 3 years ago now live on an island for about $600 a month (paid for by my house rent) best decision i ever made. i can see the beach from my adsl line
as for being labelled “an arrogant prick” i’ll leave that to the ping leather thong brigade to debate lol
no seriously love the blog cdc you’re one of the good guys!
Another thing i was wondering CDC is how long ago did you get into bh(I beleive this is where you started because I know you from syndk8 forums)? When did you first get interested/reading/etc, then how long did it take you from starting to learn to making your first site/online $? I think it has been less then2 years right? And after how long was the point you say you could finaly quit your day job?
Ok enought questions already
ps GREAT blog, i found it from affearners and have read every post since
I learned everything I know about bh from syndk8. I mean, I was doing some MadLib sites and stuff like that before I found syndk8, but nothing really too successful.
I made my first bh site in December, 2005. I quit my job in September, 2006.
So right! I am just getting started in this game. I’m living in Asia and working as a teacher. It pays the bills alright, but right now my goal is $500 a month. At $500 a month, I can quit my job and devote myself to this full time. I’m at $150 a month now.
Where I’m at, you can live on $500 a month, $800 to $1000 a month with family. Right now, my teaching is my backup but I don’t plan on it forever.
Great post!
I definitely plan on moving to a cheaper country soon - well travelling through lots of them, armed with a laptop and some successful affiliate programs!
Not only is is cheaper to live in Asia - it’s hotter (than the UK anyway) and the people are friendlier too!
Take it easy,
Si
