Homepage Sitemaps
One of the most frequently asked questions in SEO forums is whether your black hat sites should have a sitemap. There are several opinions on this, but I’m going to share what I’ve found over the past few months.
I’ve tried having a sitemap, having no sitemap, putting the sitemap on it’s own page, putting the sitemap on the homepage, having several sitemaps, etc.
What I’ve found works best for me is to have the sitemap on the homepage. I get the most links to the homepage so having links to all the other pages takes advantage of the authority that I get for the homepage. Not to mention that my homepage will rank for some of the deep keywords just for containing the keyword-stuffed link.
It’s also worth mentioning that I build what I consider to be medium-sized sites. Anywhere from 100-250 pages. I don’t think this would work too well with sites that have 1000+ pages.
