Italic Adsense Ads
I was doing some research earlier today (which means I was looking at some spam sites) and I saw Google doing some experimenting with their Adsense ads. Below is a screen shot of a Large Rectangle Adsense block with italic links. I also included the first ad of the next block (which wasn’t italic) for comparison.

I’ve also seen them experimenting with different fonts for the “Ads By Gooooogle” links as well, but I was too busy at the time to grab the screen shots. I saw one case where the “Ads By Google” text was bold and the “Google” was in the same font as the logo on their homepage, but instead of being colorful it was all black.
The Adsense Team recently announced on their blog that they were going to start showing the shopping cart icon next to ads that support Google Checkout, but I haven’t heard anything about these other changes.
Where’s Jensense when you need her? Oh yeah, she’s too busy pimping her new conference to be bothered about anything related to her blog’s topic.
I’m guessing Google is trying all these different tricks to see if they increase CTR. It’s good to see that even though they are dominating the contextual advertising market they are still experimenting and trying to improve.
