March 2007 Status Report
I learned a very important lesson this month: if you’re extremely effective at something, you should spend as much time doing it as possible. I’m effective at programming and generating organic traffic. I suck at design, PPC, and making landing pages. This month I started to outsource some of these tasks and my wallet is thanking me. The hell with being well-rounded.
Tasks Completed
1. I finally started some affiliate marketing. I tried sending PPC to a landing page, but that didn’t convert. I tried sending PPC direct to the merchant’s page and had moderate success, but not enough to justify the time I spent on it. I finally decided to go back to my roots and started cloaking auto-generated pages direct to the merchants’ pages. I’ve had some success with this, but I need to spend more time finding the right offers and researching the right keywords.
2. If you haven’t noticed, I had WageRank redesigned. After struggling with the design for the past couple months, I’m finally happy with it. The thing that bothers me is that I understand HTML and CSS, but I can’t come up with any layouts that look halfway decent. I have more respect for designers now that I’m branching out from the stock templates and I see how difficult it is to construct a layout that is functional and appealing.
3. I continued building MFA sites and they’re finally starting to get some traction. I stopped wasting my time struggling with layouts for my white hat sites and focused on improving my black hat link acquisition tool. It was time well spent.
4. I made a few changes to DIRZAP and started promoting it a bit more. I forgot how tedious white hat promotion is! Once I get a few more white hat sites built I think their promotion is going to be the next thing I outsource.
5. The end of this month has been focused on improving the domains in my portfolio. I’m currently building a system that will let me “park” them, but pay much better than those crappy parking companies. If it works, I may release it to the public, but that won’t be for a while.
Goals For April
April is going to be a half-month for me (more on this later). I’m really hoping to get my “parking” system in place, continue to build MFAs, and maybe dabble some more in sending traffic to affiliate pages.
