Trying Out AdBrite
I decided to try AdBrite as a means of monitizing WageRank.
I didn’t want to use Adsense or YPN because I think they’re everywhere and webmasters are very reluctant to click on contextual ads.
Also, I don’t need any spam hunter taking my publisher ID and getting my account banned.
I did a fair amount of research this afternoon and decided on AdBrite over the other ad networks. Several of the networks have more stringent requirements, and others pay fractions of a penny per click. I think AdBrite is a good alternative to TLA for blogs that haven’t quite yet established their readership base.
I know there are several people who absolutely hate AdBrite, but you can find people who hate any product, service, or company that exists. As long as you can find a few people who are happy with the service (which I did), it’s worth giving a shot.
One complaint that I do have already is that the links are not SEO-friendly. I imagine advertisers aren’t willing to pay as much as they would at TLA, which does provide SEO-friendly links.
This blog is just starting out, so I don’t expect advertisers to be beating down my door with the small amount of traffic this blog receives. I’d be surprised if anybody signs up within the first couple months.
I’m actually quite pleased with the progression of this blog; we’re gaining readerships and links everday. I priced the advertisements lower than other sites I have seen and I think if someone did buy a link they would be very happy with their investment.
I don’t expect the 90-day link to be this cheap in 90-days.
Hopefully I’m right.

I think the jury is still out on the SEO friendliness of this platform. I think you may have to go with the Fixed Price text links to get any benefit, and of course you should place your ads on contextually relevant sites. I have definately seen rank improvements in very short order on these types of networks. But let’s remember - we also build ads for people to find and click on, not just for link juice.. and with AdBrite, the price is right - compared to many other CPC sources (like Google Content Network feature on Adwords).
